Marvao Medical Devices

Marvao Medical’s NexSite™ technology facilitates healing at the exit sites of Central Venous Catheters by promoting the formation of a biological seal around the catheter. This seal is intended to create a natural barrier at the catheter exit site.

Marvao Medical was founded in 2006 and is based in Galway, Ireland. The company has assembled an experienced management team, board of directors and medical advisory board to assist in the development and commercialization of its technologies.

Chris Davey – CEO, Co-Founder

Mr. Davey has more than 25 years experience in developing and commercializing medical device technology, primarily at Boston Scientific (13 years). He holds an MBA from Northeastern University (Boston MA) and relocated to Ireland in 2005 to co-found Marvao Medical Devices. Mr. Davey is a named inventor on 14 patents and 4 patent applications.


Ann Marie Cannon, MSc – Director of QA/RA

Ms. Cannon has more than 20 years of Quality and Regulatory experience in the life science industry. She holds a Masters of Science in Biotechnology (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, both from University College Galway. Ms. Cannon is a named inventor on 5 patents.


Roger Hatfield, FCA – CFO, Company Secretary

Mr. Hatfield is a Chartered Accountant with more than 25 years of financial management experience in Irish technology startups. He is a graduate of Trinity College (BA, Philosophy, Honours) and a Fellow at the Institute of Chartered Accountants.


Micheal Kelly BTech MTech Msc – R&D Program Manager

Mr. Kelly has more than 15 years industrial experience with the last 10 years focused on the design, development and manufacturing of medical devices – from concept to commercialization. Mr. Kelly is a named inventor on 4 patents. He holds a Masters in Biomedical Science and a Masters in Computer Integrated Manufacturing.

Eamonn Hobbs – Chairman

Mr. Hobbs has more than 30 years of experience developing and commercializing medical device technology. Mr Hobbs is Co-Founder and former CEO of Angiodynamics.  Mr Hobbs is currently CEO of Anteres Pharmaceuticals, currently serves on several Boards across the industry, is a past Chairman of the Board for the Medical Device Manufactures association (MDM) and has previously served as a Board member for the Society of Interventional Radiology foundation (SIR).

Mark Saab – Co-Founder

Mr. Saab is President of Advanced Polymers, a successful medical device component manufacturer he co-founded in 1989 with his wife, Elisia, in Salem, New Hampshire. Mr. Saab has more than 30 years of experience in the medical device industry, and holds over 30 patents.  Mr. Saab has also been a co-founder/investor in several medical component start-up companies. In 2010, Advanced Polymers merged with The MedTech Group, and is now part of Vention Medical.


John Burns

Mr. Burns has more than 30 years of experience at senior management level within the life sciences industry. In 1978 he founded Birex Pharmaceuticals, which is now Helsinn Birex. He is a past president of the Federation of Irish Chemical Industries and former Chairman of the Irish Marketing Institute.


Mick McEnroe

Mr. McEnroe is Managing Director of the Irish division of US based Harmac Medical Products. He started the division in 1998 and has grown the business to its current level, which employs almost 200 people.  Mr McEnroe is a past President of IMDA, and also sits on the board of the parent company, based in Buffalo, NY.


Jeffrey G. Hoggard, M.D. FACP FASN

Dr. Hoggard did his residency in Internal Medicine and his fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and he is Board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. Dr. Hoggard is certified by the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology in hemodialysis vascular access procedures. He has authored numerous peer reviewed articles and has served as principle investigator for numerous clinical research trials in the field of nephrology.


Dr. John Ross

Dr Ross is the Medical Director of Dialysis Access Institute, Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg, South Carolina. He holds the American Society of Interventional and Diagnostic Nephrology Certification (2005-present) and is on the editorial board of The Journal of Vascular Access and the editorial advisory board of Endovascular Today. He has been the Principal investigator for 15 endovascular medical device companies over the past 25 years.


Dr. Leonard Mermel

Dr Mermel serves as Professor of Medicine, Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Medical Director, Epidemiology and Infection Control Dept, Rhode Island Hospital. He is co-investigator on more than 100 clinical studies on infectious disease and catheter related infection.


Dr. Gerry O’Sullivan

Dr. O’Sullivan has more than 20 years of experience as an Interventional Radiologist in Ireland, the UK, and the US. He currently practices at University College Hospital Galway, Ireland and was the Principal Investigator on the NexSite™ first-in-man Oncology study.
