About Us

Marvao Medical was founded in 2006 by Chris Davey and Mark Saab and is based in Galway, Ireland. The company has assembled an experienced management team, board of directors and medical advisory board to assist in the development and commercialization of its technologies.

Team 

Chris Davey, MBA – CEO

Mr. Davey has more than 24 years of experience developing and commercializing medical device technology, primarily at Boston Scientific (13 years). He holds an MBA from Northeastern University (Boston MA) and relocated to Ireland in 2005 to co-found Marvao Medical. Mr. Davey is a named inventor on 11 patents and 4 patent applications.

Ann Marie Cannon, MSc - Director of QA/RA

Ms. Cannon has more than 19 years of Quality and Regulatory experience in the life science industry. She holds a Masters of Science in Biotechnology (First Class Honours), and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, both from University College Galway. Ms. Cannon is a named inventor on 5 patents.

Roger Hatfield, FCA – CFO, Company Secretary

Mr. Hatfield is a Chartered Accountant with more than 25 years of financial management experience in Irish technology startups. He is a graduate of Trinity College (BA, Philosophy, Honours) and a Fellow at the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Jonathan Bouchier-Hayes, MBA – Director of Business Development

Mr. Bouchier-Hayes has an MBA from University College Dublin and over 14 years of experience in the medical device industry in a variety of sales, marketing, and business development roles.

Mike Folan, C.Biol; M. I. Biol; M. Sc – Biochemist and Microbiologist

Mr. Folan is a Chartered Member of The London Institute of Biology, holds a Masters Degree in Biochemistry from University College Galway, and is a Qualified Person under EC Legislation 75/319.

Board of Directors

John Burns - Chairman

Mr. Burns has 25 years of experience at senior management level within the life sciences industry. In 1978 he founded Birex Pharmaceuticals, which is now Helsinn Birex. He is a past president of the Federation of Irish Chemical Industries and former Chairman of the Irish Marketing Institute.

Mark Saab – Co Founder

Mr. Saab is President of Advanced Polymers, a successful medical device component manufacturer he co-founded in 1989 with his wife, Elisia, in Salem, New Hampshire. Mr. Saab has more  than 25 years of experience in the medical device industry, and holds over 30 patents.  Mr. Saab has also been a co-founder/investor in several medical component start-up companies. In 2010, Advanced Polymers merged with The MedTech Group, and is now part of Vention Medical.

Mick McEnroe

Mr. McEnroe is Managing Director of the Irish division of US based Harmac Medical Products. He started the division in 1998 and has grown the business to its current level, which employs almost 200 people.  Mr McEnroe is a past President of IMDA, and also sits on the board of the parent company, based in Buffalo, NY.

Gillian Buckley

Ms. Buckley is acting CEO at the Western Development Commission, where she has served since its inception in the 1990s. The WDC is a state body that provides loans and equity to business in the Western Region of Ireland.

Eric Reed, FCA

Mr. Reed is an Investment Manager at Enterprise Equity. He is a former senior manager with Coopers & Lybrand and executive Digital Equipment Intl.  He founding director of two successful start-up companies in 1994 and worked with those companies as director before joining Enterprise Equity.

Dr. David Brophy

Dr. Brophy has more than 20 years of experience as an Interventional Radiologist in Ireland and the US.  He currently practices at St Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin, Ireland.

Dr. Gerry O’Sullivan

Dr. O’Sullivan has more than 20 years of experience as an Interventional Radiologist in Ireland, the UK, and the US.  He currently practices at University College Hospital Galway, Ireland and is the Principal Investigator of Marvao’s first NexSite CVC clinical study.

Marvao Medical’s investors include Enterprise Equity, Western Development Commission, Enterprise Ireland, the founders and other private investors.

    A long-term Central Venous Catheter (CVC) to reduce CRBSI by eliminating the exit site as route of infection.
